Cupid and Psyche: Love Story
to
Walter Anderson Museum of Art 510 Washington Avenue, Ocean Springs, Mississippi 39564
The Walter Anderson Museum of Art (WAMA) is eager to present its new exhibition Cupid and Psyche: Love Story. The exhibit's focal point is a conserved and rare block print of Anderson's, which was damaged and nearly lost in Hurricane Katrina. The print depicts the Greek myth of Cupid and Psyche, the story of a mortal woman and a god who prove their love for each other through a series of daunting trials. The print is presented alongside works that Anderson painted of his wife, Agnes Grinstead "Sissy" Anderson. Brought together, these works reflect a central paradox of trial and belonging that the artist and his wife shared, that of the mythological hero and heroine.
