Domestic Jungles

Hammond Regional Arts Center 217 East Thomas Street, Hammond, Louisiana 70404
Domestic Jungles brings together the works of Mia Kaplan, Otto Ochs, and Mikey Walsh, three artists creatively drawn towards the mediums found in nature. This new exhibition at the Hammond Regional Art Center explores works influenced primarily by elemental materials derived from Louisiana's distinct, natural landscape. Mikey Walsh, associate professor of ceramics at LSU, transforms clay into objects of domestic use and decoration. Mia Kaplan is a painter and sculptor heavily influenced by her environment, in particular that surrounding her Lacombe residence. Working primarily in wood, Otto Ochs pulls the materials for his artwork straight from nature. Domestic Jungles opens Friday, January 6, with a reception from 5 pm–8 pm. hammondarts.org.
