Dulcimer Jam
St. Landry Parish Visitor Center 978 Kennerson Road, Opelousas, Louisiana 70570
Every Wednesday morning, from 10 am–noon, the sound of the dulcimer rings out at the St. Landry Parish Visitor Center. The stringed instrument originated from Scottish and Irish pioneers who settled in Appalachia, making it a uniquely American instrument iconic to the bluegrass genre. Though, here in Louisiana, it is often used to play Cajun classics, as well. Enthusiasts of all levels, with dulcimers and other acoustic instruments, are invited to join every week. (337) 873-8758.
