Ephemeral: The Art of Jennifer Carwile & Kelsey Livingston
Kelwood Contemporary Art 8202 Kelwood Avenue, Baton Rouge, Louisiana
Artists Jennifer Carwile and Kelsey Livingston approach their studio work in vastly different ways, but both have found a common ground in the shared visual of the bird and the nest—forming the basis of their new show, Ephemeral. The dual image serves as a metaphor for control, anxiety, perception, reality, and all manner of concerns. The nest is a stable fortress against the elements, until it isn't. The egg is an entire cosmos full of potential, up to a point. A bird is capable of controlling and altering their surroundings to suit their needs, for a time. At the heart of their work these artists deal with anxieties over global or universal truths that no one has real control over.
The joint exhibition opens on Kelwood Contemporary Art on January 4 with a public reception on January 12, 5 pm–8 pm. The gallery will be closed from January 18–21. Regular gallery hours are 11 am–5 pm on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. For appointments, please call (704) 526-8097.
