Julia Reed, the late journalist, author, and celebrated tastemaker of Vogue, The Wall Street Journal, Elle Decor, and Garden & Gun, will have pieces from her estate in Neal Auction Company's Important Winter Estates Auction catalogue. A Mississippi native who made New Orleans home, favored objects from her New York, New Orleans, and Greenville homes will be available. From art to antiques to barware to furniture, Neal Auction's holdings from Reed's estate showcase her diverse interests and epitomize the style and elegance for which she was renowned. An art enthusiast having served on the board of the Ogden Museum, Southern art is featured prominently in the items from her estate as well as barware and furnishings, reflecting Reed's legendary capabilities as a hostess.
The sole beneficiary of the auction of Reed's estate collection is the Julia Evans Reed Charitable Trust, which continues the philanthropic work Reed engaged in during her life of supporting organizations that provide the opportunities Reed valued most: "a good home, nourishing food, a quality education, and opportunities for learning, literacy and engagement in the arts."
The auction will be virtual with telephone, absentee, and online bidding through liveauctioneers.com and invaluable.com. A preview will take place “by appointment” beginning January 25 at 10 am. nealauction.com.
