Family Paddle to the Mysterious Lake Charlo

This family-friendly paddle trip takes you through the city along the Vermilion River from Heymann Park, past the Lafayette Airport. Veering to the right, you'll catch the Bayou Tortue, adorned with cypress and tupelo trees, growing constantly denser as the city makes way for the wild. Eventually, the Tortue opens up to the secluded Lake Charlo, which is home to spoonbills, osprey, owls, alligators, and more. It's even possible to see bald eagles.
