Second Tuesdays with NOPA
Meet professional photographer Gus Bennett
NOPA Gallery 7800 Oak Street, City of New Orleans, Louisiana 70118
The New Orleans Photo Alliance invites all to join in on a lecture by Joan Mitchell Center Artist-in-residence Gus Bennett. Bennett's work as a professional photographer is evidenced by his portfolio of editorial covers in magazines such as ESSENCE, Ebony, Jet, UPSCALE, and TRIBE. His work has been featured on the New Orleans Regional Transit Authority Bus line in ad campaigns urging an end to domestic violence, and his images were used on the official poster for "True Roots," a cultural celebration of the 200th anniversary of the Louisiana Purchase and the impact of the Haitian Revolution on the Louisiana Purchase.
In 2016, Bennett was recognized by the Urban League of Greater New Orleans with an "Essence of New Orleans" award, he was presented with the "Keeper of the Flame" award by the Mardi Gras Indian Council for his documentary series of past and present chiefs, and an image from his series Black Code was selected for the 2016 Louisiana Photography Biennial. 7 pm.
