John Warner Smith on Muhammad's Mountain
A Black History Month program from the Louisiana Center for the Book
Louisiana State Library 701 North 4th Street, Baton Rouge, Louisiana 70802
As part of its Black History Month celebrations, the Louisiana Center for the Book welcomes poet John Warner Smith for a talk on his poetry collection, Muhammand's Mountain—the first ever book-length collection of poetry on the life and legacy of Muhammad Ali. The forty five poems examine the life of Ali from a poetic perspective that examines major events throughout the end of the twentieth century.
The Baton Rouge poet has published three other collections, and is preparing to release his fifth, Our Shut Eyes: New & Selected Poems on Race in America, this year.
The presentation is free and open to the public in the State Library's Seminar Center, and attendees are encouraged to bring a "brown bag" lunch. Books will be available for purchase from the author. Noon.
