Kaori Maeyama: Subaquatic Homesick Blues
to
Staple Goods 1340 St. Roch Avenue, New Orleans, Louisiana 70117
The New Orleans artist collective Staple Goods opens its summer exhibition on Saturday, June 8, featuring the landscapes of painter Kaori Maeyama. In this series, called Subaquatic Homesick Blues, Maeyama explores the subaquatic qualities of nocturnal urban landscapes and diminishing affordable housing, depicting ordinary street scenes distorted in atmosphere and layers of glass. Darkness denies the illusion of depth, and visual noise accentuates obscured vision and shortsightedness.
On display until July 7, with an opening reception from 6 pm–9 pm on June 8. staplegoods.org.
