For its 2019 Annual Meeting, the Pointe Coupée Historical Society invites the public to meet special guest speaker Joe Simon, author of The Greatest of All Leathernecks: John Archer Lejeune and the Making of the Modern Marine Corps. The book is the first comprehensive biography of Louisiana native John Archer Lejeune (1867-1942), who is considered the most innovative and influential leader of the United States Marine Corps during the 20th century for his development of amphibious assault missions.
The meeting opens at 5 pm with a tour of Poydras Park and light refreshments. After a brief introduction of the board, an overview of the organization's achievements in 2019, and its plans for 2020, Mr. Simon will speak and be available for a book signing at 6:30 pm.
