West Baton Rouge Museum 845 North Jefferson Avenue, Port Allen, Louisiana 70767
The Mardi Gras Indians are coming to Port Allen—in photographic form at least. West Baton Rouge Museum's exhibition Mardi Gras Indians by J. Nash Porter captures glimpses of this extremely vital, colorful, and somewhat mysterious New Orleans tradition through the lens of a Big Easy native. Although his most prolific work was with the New Orleans Mardi Gras Indians, his photographic exhibits encompass an amalgam of African American blues and jazz musicians, and traditional cultures of the American South, West Africa, and the Caribbean. The exhibit will run through February 25 and can be viewed by visitors during regular museum hours. (225) 336-2422 or westbatonrougemuseum.com.
