Mary Jane Parker
"Storms in Her Head," archival pigment print, 2014.
In describing the the mystical, tantalizing natures of Mary Jane Parker's depictions of perfume bottles, she says: "My work includes collections of objects ... objects that have a function but are beautiful and precious at the same time."
She brings such reflection to other resounding themes across her body of work, showing a concern for the ways our bodies collect marks—scrapes, cuts, scars—that tell our stories, as well as the ways our body carry inward emotional strains.
Parker's work has been celebrated both nationally and internationally, and is included int eh permanent collection of the New Orleans Museum of Art, the LSU Museum of Art, and the Center for Book Arts in New York, as well as numerous private collections. This month, her work will be on display at the Baton Rouge Gallery until September 1.
