Brandan "BMike" Odums
Who belongs here? In his first solo museum exhibition at the Newcomb Art Museum, titled NOT Supposed 2-Be Here, multi-media artist Brandan "BMike" Odums explores the layers of belonging from his personal perspectives as an artist of non-traditional forms, a black man in America, and a resident of a place that seems doomed to disappear.
Such exploration transcends Odums's personal experiences though, encouraging audiences to engage with the complicated histories and futures of the places we live—our places, our identities, this place, this identity. Through colossal paintings, sculpture, mixed media, and immersive installations, Odums walks through historical experiences like Katrina, honors local legends from New Orleans Access Television, and pays homage to artists and musicians who have influenced Odums's work.
NOT Supposed 2-Be Here will open on January 18 with a reception, featuring a children's art activity hour from 4 pm–5 pm, and music, drinks, catering, and artist's remarks from 5 pm–8 pm. newcombartmuseum.tulane.edu.
