If conditions are right, the Perseid meteor shower is usually the most hotly anticipated of the year, with upwards of fifty streaking meteors per hour visible across the summer sky on clear nights. This year, the moon is only two days past new when the shower peaks, letting the stars shine even brighter in their show. The experts at BREC's Highland Road Park Observatory are opening their doors between 10 pm and 2 am this evening, when staff and volunteers will be on the lookout for "earthgrazers" as the 2018 meteor shower reaches its peak. Free and for all ages; hope for clear skies. hrpo.lsu.edu. (225) 268-9948.
