Recitations
The Historic New Orleans Collection 533 Royal Street, New Orleans, Louisiana 70130
The Historic New Orleans Collection's "Art of the City: Postmodern to Post-Katrina" won't open until this fall, but public programs throughout the year will celebrate the forthcoming show. First up, "Recitations" brings artist Zarouhie Abadalian for a discussion of her sound installation of the same name. A New Orleans native, Abdalian based “Recitations”—which features five brass bells that are programmed to ring for five minutes every day—off of communication methods used during the city’s colonial days. The bells are positioned on THNOC properties and the Omni Royal Orleans hotel outside of the public view, resulting in a unique sonic experience in the heart of the French Quarter. Abdalian, who was featured in our November 2017 "Curator's Choice" round-up of the state's emerging artists, will discuss the inspiration, fabrication, and installation of her work. 12:30 pm–1:30 pm.
