This weekend festival dedicated to the memory of Louis Armstrong presents an extensive roster of performances by contemporary New Orleans musicians from many genres, paying homage to the musical and cultural legend. Bands coming to play read like a who's who of traditional and contemporary jazz and brass bands—Preservation Brass, NOJO 7 featuring Philip Manuel, Big Chief Donald Harrison with the ICONS, John Boutté, and many, many more. At the Satchmo Legacy Stage, hear experts discuss topics such as "Born on the 4th of July: What Independence Day Meant to Louis Armstrong," presented by Country Roads magazine contributor Sam Irwin. Plus there's children's programming, a Jazz Mass, a second line, and plenty of tasty New Orleans food to keep you going. The two main stages are located at the Jazz Museum in the Old US Mint, 400 Esplanade Avenue. Daily admission $7 in advance, $10 at the door. satchmosummerfest.org.
