Sheldon Scott at the Ogden
to
Ogden Museum of Southern Art 925 Camp Street, New Orleans, Louisiana 70130
The Ogden Museum is hosting artist Sheldon Scott on May 13 for a special live performance of his work Portrait, number 1 man (day clean ta sun down), during which he will painstakingly hull individual grains of rice as a tribute to enslaved Gullah/Geeche people living in the Carolinas prior to the Civil War. The performance will last from 6:08 am until 7:45 pm, and guests are invited to come by at any time during the performance.
Scott will be at the Ogden again on May 14 for a Curated Conversation with Curator of the Collection for Ogden Museum Bradley Sumrall. The conversation will delve into the ways Scott's performance facilitates multi-generational healing and provides humanity to the history of enslaved individuals. The talk will begin at 2 pm.
Both of these events are presented alongside the Odgen's anniversary exhibition Knowing Who We Are: A 20th Anniversary Exhibition, which features Scott's 2019 performance video Portrait, numba 1 man (day clean ta sun down).
