Gallier House Summer Dress Exhibition
to
Gallier Historic House 1126 Royal Street, New Orleans, Louisiana 70112
In the late 19th century summers, as the humid South Louisiana air grew thick and hot, New Orleans socialites retreated from their demanding calendar into their homes. There, without the modern comforts of air conditioning, total interior transformations were obligatory to surviving the summer months.
This summer, the Hermann-Grima + Gallier Historic Houses (HGGHH) will open the Summer Dress exhibition at Gallier Historic House, located at 1132 Royal Street, highlighting a historical seasonal décor change in keeping with the period of the home. Carpets and rugs are to be uprooted, heavy draperies removed, and brocade and silk furniture covered in white muslin to protect the delicate fabrics and draw in cooler tones and textures.
The exhibition will be open from May 17 to September 3. For more information, and to purchase tickets, visit www.hgghh.org.
