Tricentennial Symposium

The Historic New Orleans Collection 533 Royal Street, New Orleans, Louisiana 70130
New Orleans has an entire year to celebrate its three hundredth birthday, but we expect the most in-depth coverage of the city's eventful three centuries will come during The Historic New Orleans Collection's "Making New Orleans Home: A Tricentennial Symposium." The four-day event, presented with the City of New Orleans 2018 Commission's Cultural and Historical Committee, is the capstone of that committee, which is chaired by author and former Associate Vice President for External Affairs at Xavier University Sybil Morial and THNOC Executive Director Priscilla Lawrence. The symposium will feature lectures and cultural programming throughout the city, exploring New Orleans' journey to the diverse and vibrant mecca it is today. The location moves each day: Thursday’s keynote session will take place at Tulane University’s McAlister Auditorium. Friday’s sessions will be held in the French Quarter at the Hotel Monteleone. Xavier University will host the programs for Saturday, and the University of New Orleans will host Sunday’s events. Additional evening events will take place on the 500 block of Royal Street at The Historic New Orleans Collection (Friday, March 9) and the New Orleans Jazz Museum (Saturday, March 10).
Cokie Roberts will present Thursday's keynote address, while Isabel Wilkerson, the first black woman in American journalism to win a Pulitzer, will speak on Saturday morning. Locations, panel descriptions, and more details can be found at 2018nola.com.
