We Built This City
to
Hill Memorial Library LSU, Baton Rouge, Louisiana 70803
What constitutes a city? And how did our city become the grid(lock) that it is today? A new exhibition at the Hill Memorial Library chronicles Baton Rouge's development from a settlement to a city, examining how various systems interconnect to become something larger and lasting.
Aerial photographs by Fonville Winans, dating back to 1947, give the bird's-eye view of Baton Rouge's urban growth. The story is further told with images of LSU and Southern, artifacts from the LSU Museum of Natural Science, and various items from the LSU Special Collections, including visitors’ accounts, original suburb plans, war correspondence, and maps are among the items on display.
The exhibit remains on view from October 15—March 1. Visit lib.lsu.edu/special for hours and directions, or call (225) 578-6544.
