Grete Viddal, PhD, creates photo-essays about New Orleans’ unique traditions, eccentricities,and events. She also spent years doing research in the Caribbean. Her book in progress, VodúChic: Cuba's Haitian Heritage, the Folkloric Imaginary, and the State, explores how performers, artists, and religious practitioners of Haitian descent in Cuba interface with state policies, cultural institutes, and transnational brokers such as music promoters and tour guides to showcase their heritage. She moved to New Orleans after completing degrees in Anthropologyand African and African American Studies at Harvard University.
