In 2017, one need not move to Silicon Valley to pursue a career making video games. The independent video game industry is bigger than ever before and growing rapidly in Louisiana, and the key players are convening at FifoCon in Baton Rouge. “What we’re trying to do is bring everyone in our state who makes games into one room to show off the community,” said Cody Louviere, founder of King Crow Studios, which is sponsoring the Video Game Room at the convention.
Louviere founded King Crow Studios, a Baton Rouge-based independent game production company, in 2014, and in the three years since the company’s inception it has also morphed into a business consultation and marketing firm for other indie game companies throughout the state. King Crow Studios is sponsoring the Video Game Room at FifoCon, where representatives from more than a dozen Louisiana-based companies will network and showcase their projects.
According to Louviere, the goal is also to recruit new talent that may not have been aware of the industry’s presence in the state. “If you have a skill set, and a desire to enter the gaming industry, we have the opportunities to get you that work. As long as you have the drive and passion to achieve your goals in yourself as well. So we want to let people know what’s going on here. That’s what we hope to take away from it: a whole knew bevy of locals that will now go ‘Oh my gosh, we have video games that are being made here in Louisiana, that’s awesome!’ or ‘Oh man, I’ve always wanted to get involved in the gaming industry, and I have all these great ideas, how do I go about turning this concept into an actual game?’ And we can help you with that.”
