 "Guardian: Cats"
30” x 40,” acrylic on canvas
by Cathy Hegman

“Guardian: Cats” is the third in a new series of works that Mississippi artist Cathy Hegman is creating for Carol Robinson Gallery, which is currently celebrating its thirtieth anniversary exhibition. Hegman writes, “The Guardians series was created to depict the symbiotic relationship we have with animals in our lives. ‘Guardian: Cats’ portrays the empathy of animals with us in times of need. In this painting, the cat’s paw resting on the leg of the figure implies the power of touch … [which] transcends all need of verbal language, and carries with it both the love and support that is often needed in our lives. Animals seem to innately understand when we need their support, and they freely give it without ever expecting compensation. Animals, both domestic and wild, have always been a significant part of my life’s story, and I feel extremely blessed to be able to include them in my art in significant roles to give them the credence they deserve.”

Part of Carol Robinson Gallery’s permanent collection, Hegman’s work has a prominent place in both current and upcoming exhibitions. 840 Napoleon Avenue, New Orleans. (504) 895-6130 or carolrobinsongallery.com.
