Breweries to Tour in Louisiana

Here in Louisiana, the craft beer and spirits scene is just getting better by the day. Most of the state's craft breweries offer regular tasting tours, so for a refreshing day, designate a driver and plot a course for one of these crafty spots within an hour or so's drive of Baton Rouge. 

Hours provided are up-to-date to the best of our knowledge, but check with your choice of taproom before getting on the road.

• Abita Brewing Company and Brew Pub

  The brewery that put Louisiana on the craft beer lover's map is still going strong, offering a wide array of reliable year-round offerings and a slate of eagerly awaited seasonal beers. Try them all alongside the tasty bar menu, at Abita's Brew Pub.

• Jamie Orillion

  Bayou Teche Brewing

  Bayou Teche Brewery calls itself the beer drinker's paradise, and with regular live music complementing the beer and the bilingual brewery tours, it's hard to disagree. Check the website to see who's playing this weekend.

• Chafunkta Brewing Company

  This literal mom-and-pop operation out of Mandeville produces some less common styles, including a robust porter, a cream ale, and an Irish red.

• Covington Brewhouse

  Sample a variety of craft beers from a respected local producer, whose handsome tasting room stands smack in the middle of foodie mecca, Covington, right beside the Tammany Trace Trailhead. Live music regularly, too.

• Daniel Castro

  Crying Eagle Brewing Company

  The first modern brewery operating in Lake Charles has been spreading its wares statewide to consistent acclaim; special and experimental offerings are available in their taproom.

• Gnarly Barley Brewing Company

  This husband-and-wife outfit prizes creativity in their brewing, blurring the lines between traditional styles to create inimitable offerings, ready to taste at their Hammond location.

• Old Rail Brewing Company

  A pooch-friendly Old Mandeville hotspot picturesquely situated between the lakefront and the Tammany Trace trailhead, offers a full menu of tasty bar food alongside a wide variety of house-made beers. Lots of special seasonal quaffs to try, too.

  Parish Brewing Co.

  Building on the success of Canebrake, Parish Brewing Company is fast becoming one of the Gulf South's leading small breweries. The taproom hosts regular beer release events, cask tappings, food truck roundups, and more. Check the website for details.

• Southern Craft Brewing

  This Baton Rouge ale shop grew from a homebrew operation between friends into a local favorite. Their beers serve as a showcase for locally sourced, Southern ingredients... no Yankee hops, here!

• Three Roll Estate

  Three Roll Estate's tasting room in downtown Baton Rouge offers rum (and, interestingly, vodka) made from sugarcane sourced from the family's Pointe Coupee parish sugar plantation, Alma. Including a rare (and delicious) American rhum agricole.
