Meanwhile... A New Way to Enjoy Natchez

Peggy Sweeney-McDonald leads Preserve Louisiana's new tour of Natchez

by

People passionate about architectural preservation don’t need much encouragement to head to Natchez, Mississippi. The river town has more than six hundred homes on the National Register of Historic Places, most built prior to 1860, when Natchez was home to more millionaires per capita than any other city in the United States. So you can expect slots to fill fast for Preserve Louisiana’s first guided tour of Natchez, which will spend three days revealing Natchez’s architectural, cultural, and culinary secrets, this January 27—29.

Cuisine especially will head the topics because leading the way will be Peggy Sweeney-McDonald, creator of the long-running monologue series Meanwhile, Back at Café Du Monde,  which recruits local personalities to stand up and tell poignant, funny stories about the place of food in their lives. So in Natchez, between tours of historic landmarks, dining events in historic homes and barbecue joints, and a tasting tour of Charboneau Rum Distillery, tour participants will be treated to a seated dinner at Dunleith Historic Inn to the tune of culinary monologues by notable local foodies Chef Regina Charboneau (Twin Oaks and King’s Tavern); Darby Ward Short (owner of Darby’s Famous Fudge); Dunleith’s mixologist Mark Brockway, and yours truly, who has experienced his fair share of food adventures since arriving twenty years ago. For all the event details, see the related calendar listing here.

Preserve Louisiana’s Cultural & Historical Tour includes transportation, a two-night stay at Natchez’ Grand Hotel, meals, tours, and the Meanwhile, Back at Café Du Monde… show. For tickets call (310) 709-2851 or email peggy@superstareventsla.com.
