Pine trees were the foundation for the lumber industry that built Springhill, and that time-honored history is commemorated every October with the Springhill Lumberjack Festival. The daylong heritage celebration draws thousands of visitors from across North Louisiana to don their finest plaid flannels and  try their hand at old-school timber-themed competitions, such as sawing and log-splitting contests.

There's also a car and motorcycle show, an antique tractor show, and a parade to kick off the festivities on Saturday. The fun continues throughout the day at Frank Anthony Park with artisan booths, food trucks, games, and even a fireman’s competition where several local fire departments will be competing for bragging rights to the best lumberjack lineup.

Since the city's first sawmill opened its doors in 1936, the economy of this region has been tied directly or indirectly to the woods that engulf its rolling hills. A stroll through the nature trails in Frank Anthony Park leads to a lake and the original steam engine that powered the Pine Woods Lumber Company in the 1890s. visitwebster.net
