Dutch Oven Cookin'

Make new friends and hone your dutch oven cooking skills at the monthly potluck-style meetup in Lake Bistineau State Park.

Whether you hail from the forest-dense terrain of North Louisiana or you call the Cajun bayous and coastal stretches of our state home, one thing never fails to bring the two sides together—food. Cooking by dutch oven, one of the most versatile preparation methods because it doesn't require electricity and produces a variety of dishes, is an art. Make new friends, exchange recipes, and learn a few new tips at a dutch oven get-together.

On the second Saturday of each month, the Bayou Pots chapter of the Louisiana Dutch Oven Society (LDOS) hosts a dutch oven cooking meetup at Lake Bistineau State Park. There’s cooking demonstrations, followed by indulging in the fruit of your labor by sharing a meal together, pot-luck style.

Make it an overnight escape by camping or staying at one of the park cabins. Situated on the western shore of Lake Bistineau, the state park boasts a laundry list of state-of-the-art recreational facilities, including: two boat launches, hiking and biking trails, playgrounds and green spaces, two swimming pools, a lakefront beach, camping, cabins, lodges, and excellent fishing.

Cooking demonstrations start at 10 am at the Rally Pavilion, and lunch is on the table at noon. The meetup is free, though the park entrance fee of $3 applies to anyone under age sixty-two. visitwebster.net
