If you're hungry for an authentic taste of South Louisiana, the Cajun Bayou Food Trail will take you “off the eatin' path” for an unforgettable adventure through Lafourche Parish. Less than an hour's drive from New Orleans, Lafourche boasts an “unapologetically Cajun” heart, the extent of which you can only appreciate as you embrace its people, its stories, and of course, its food. So grab your Trail map and passport and let your taste buds lead the way as you explore local dishes up and down the bayou from Thibodaux to Port Fourchon.

Your delicious trek along Bayou Lafourche is anchored by fifteen must-taste restaurants, plus six seasonal food-centric festivals and events. Not that you need a map to find good eatin' in these parts—outstanding food and unparalleled hospitality are strongly-held tenets going back generations, passed down with just as much care as the family's secret recipes.

“Our food has a story that’s rooted in traditions and told by the wonderful storytellers who own and operate the restaurants along the trail,” said Timothy Bush, President of Louisiana's Cajun Bayou Tourism, at the ceremony establishing the Trail in May 2018. He hopes the program brings visitors to enjoy not only the renowned food of the region, he said, but also the vibrant cultural experiences that are intertwined with it.

Because no matter where in Lafourche your journey takes you, you're likely to find that the good times don't stop at the table—they keep on rollin'.  Stomp your feet to the lively rhythm of the Cajun Jam at Gina's at the Legion one night in Thibodaux, then relax against scenic bayou views at Spahr's in Des Allemands the next. Who knows what adventure another plate brings?

Each stop nets you another stamp on your passport, but don't be too focused on your next destination. The journey, like the food, is meant to be savored. Take in the scenic bayou vistas and some local culture along the way, then stop for the night at a waterfront campsite, cozy local hotel, or antebellum bed and breakfast.  Once you've had your fill, bring your passport (with seven or more stamps) to the Visitors Center in Raceland or mail it in for your free t-shirt! And since the bayou shared its story with you, why not share yours with #cajunbayou?
