If an area’s charm can be measured by its antique shops (we argue that it can), go ahead and call central Louisiana Prince Charming. Alexandria and its surrounding towns are graced with a plethora of unique shopping options for those who love and appreciate antiques, collectibles, and just great, old-fashioned junk. Or “junque”, as Sue Davis, co-owner of Amelia’s Attic antique store in Glenmora, Louisiana lovingly refers to it. She co-owns the store, named after her own mother Amelia Mae, with her daughter Mallory.

“It all started as a hobby. We’re just a mother and daughter duo that loves picking, and finding the most unique junque,” Sue said. “Never in our wildest dreams did we really think we would become business owners.”

They became the third flea market to open on Main Street in Glenmora, and now, three years later, there are seven shops in Glenmora and the surrounding areas. Junkin’ on Main, Corner Antiques, and Miss Ann are all located nearby; each offering its own unique treasures.

“The most rewarding thing about being shop owners is hearing all the kind words we receive from our customers. They inspire us to find the most unique, unusual pieces. Which is the funnest part, the hunt!” Davis muses. “We love to hear the stories behind the pieces we find — It brings to mind the song, ‘Grandpa, Tell Me 'Bout the Good Ole Days’ — and also where our pieces end up. Whether it’s someone’s new home decor, or decor for Cracker Barrel Country Store, it genuinely fills our hearts to know they found it at Amelia’s Attic.”
