“We’ve got everything imaginable,” says Donna Jennings, the Main Street Manager for Denham Springs. “Our wares are really special—you’ll have something different that no one else has, at a reasonable price.” The (somewhat) cooling temperatures are a reminder that the holiday season is rapidly approaching, and there’s no better way to find a meaningful gift than shopping local from a tight-knit arts scene that can’t be found in big cities, Jennings says. Artisans offer painted furniture or custom-designed jewelry, while malls like Theatre Antiques and Benton Bros. Antique Mall carry an assortment of storied heirlooms, so pickers can find everything from bygone relics to fine antiques, Jennings says. The historic district is a treasure trove for quirky art, vintage literature, and unfinished birdhouses galore. Time your trip for the second Saturday of the month to bear witness to the spectacle that is V. Watts Trade Day: over 200 vendors set up shop between V. Watts Furniture and V. Watts Trade Mart for a market of everything you didn’t know you needed until now. For other vendor-heavy community-wide events, the Denham Springs Merchants Association is the impetus behind the town’s annual Spring Fest, Fall Fest, and Christmas in the Village, drawing crowds from all over the state to shop from myriad makers and partake in the festivities.
