Fall Events and Attractions

While this year’s Renaissance Euro Fest is one of the season’s most highly anticipated events, there’s lots more to experience, enjoy, and explore within the Ridgeland area this fall. Visit Sanderson Farms for its eponymous PGA Golf Championship, which will take place from Monday, September 26 to Sunday, October 2 at the Jackson Country Club; the schedule includes morning and afternoon tee times for spectators; highlights include a keynote appearance by special guest and Mississippi native Sarah Thomas, the NFL’s first female official, at the tournament’s Women’s Day luncheon on Tuesday, September 27. 

Open daily from sunrise to sunset, the Chisha Foka Multi-Use Trail, which extends across ten paved miles of trail, traverses the Choctaw Native American tribe’s ancestral lands. The trail’s name translates to “among the post oaks,” and today, trail visitors can enjoy the area’s abundance of trees, wildflowers, and wildlife while walking its beautiful greenspaces. The Barnett Reservoir, parts of which the trail skirts, also offers water-friendly recreational activities, like pontoon boat rental (available from the Main Harbor Store Marina). Or you could pick up a kayak at Pearl River Kayaks, which offers private tours and introductory paddling lessons, too. Ridgeland Mountain Bike Trails offer riders of all levels the chance to bike through rolling hills and unusual rock formations; the 15th annual Fat Tire Festival & McGee Lungbuster races will be held here on October 15 and 16. With more than 140 restaurants dotted along Ridgeland’s cycling trails, refueling in between activities is easily accomplished.

The Twilight Concert series, which kicks off on October 22, spotlights musical acts Blues Traveler, Gov’t Mule, and BONNEVILLE at the Renaissance. Pelican Cove Grill, located just inside the Main Harbor on the Rez, features live music daily. Nearby, the mission of the beloved Bill Waller Craft Center, a 20,000 square foot space where artists can sell their work, is to encourage future generations to foster an appreciation for craft, teach the skills of craftwork through classes and camps, and showcase traditional folk items, from quilts to fused glass, for patrons to browse and purchase.
