Natchez, Home to the Arts

Classes, galleries, studios, and more in the jewel of the Mississippi

If you’re looking for a cultural experience, look no further. Natchez is home to a vibrant arts scene, including major cultural happenings like the Natchez Literary and Cinema Celebration and the Natchez Festival of Music. Many visual artists call the River City home, such as renowned sculpturist Conner Burns, lured by the region’s natural beauty and ever-growing gallery scene. Performing arts groups like Natchez Little Theatre also produce a slew of mainstage productions each season,

Notably, fine art gallery Conde Contemporary, known for representing a cadre of highly lauded international artists as well as its teaching artists residency program, relocated to Natchez from Miami this year. In October, its most recent immersive art exhibition, Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, debuted to accolades aplenty.

A visit to the Mississippi School of Folk Arts offers classes, workshops, and lectures in traditional arts and crafts, including pottery, painting, jewelry, and textiles. Better yet, if you join the school as a member, you'll be invited to work alongside other creative types during open studio sessions. The main campus is just a block away from the bluff overlooking the Mississippi River, offering a beautiful view of the winding waters below.

A partner of the School of Folk Arts, Crafted Gallery & Art Supply is a one-stop shop for gifts made by local and regional makers, classes, art supplies, curated works, and more.

ArtsNatchez is a hub of local talent, showcasing works including jewelry, paintings, sculptures, and pottery by a collective of artists native to Natchez and the surrounding region. Browsing through the local artwork in the Main Street gallery—which is also a nonprofit—you'll surely see how each creation expresses a deep love for the jewel of the Mississippi.

Prepare to fall head over heels for this charming destination on the Mighty Mississippi as you see it through the eyes of its most visually gifted residents. Need help planning your trip? Check out visitnatchez.org for more local galleries, arts events, and more.
