One Book, One Community offering interactive fun for the whole family

While the East Baton Rouge Parish Library’s One Book One Community program on Hidden Figures offers many fascinating presentations and events for adults; there are plenty of out of this world offerings for kids, too.

To get off the ground, the launch party at the Main Library on February 24 will have STEM games, a balloon artist, and other family fun for little aspiring astronauts.

Throughout March, children can crawl into LASM’s inflatable traveling planetarium the Discovery Dome, which will make its way throughout the parish projecting Magic Treehouse: Space Mission. Seating for these screenings is limited, so make sure to register little ones with the library beforehand.

And, what better way to get kids engaged with a topic than with a classic favorite: LEGOs! The library has purchased Women of NASA LEGO sets for several branches, and young space explorers are invited throughout March to listen to space-themed stories while building rockets and other equipment with the LEGOs themselves.

Good times for teenagers will not be neglected, either, as Tech for Teens! will allow them to build STEM skills through a series of hands-on activities, including Rover Races and even a DIY Rocket course.

“Whether you’re a grandpa, or a grand baby, or a teenager, or a millennial, there will be something here for you,” said Assistant Library Director Mary Stein.
