In Acadia Parish, there’s an old adage that says, 'the Cajun dozen is thirteen.' There is perhaps no better representation of this ‘en plus’ motif than at Simone Little Fine Art Gallery. Simone is a multimedia artist, writer, teacher, and farmer, whose art gallery, nestled amid idyllic prairielands in Morse, Louisiana, reveals a symbiotic connection with the natural beauty of Acadia Parish—a well of inspiration for Simone throughout her life. 

For Simone Little, the artist is inseparable from her heritage. Her art transcends mere imagery of the nature of Acadia Parish, it serves as a symbol of the indomitable spirit of the Cajun people—a community that has continuously innovated and adapted amid the challenges of history and environment, where creativity has been an essential tool for survival. From her earliest memories of making mud pies on the rice farm, to her ventures into pottery, painting, glassblowing, and beyond, Simone's artistic evolution has been guided by an unwavering commitment to transcending limitations and a fearless spirit of experimentation. Simone’s latest creative endeavor was learning to print her photographs on glass, and in sharing an anecdote of her recent discovery of chanterelles in her bayou backyard, the artist says, “ I was very grateful to nature, that it could still teach me at 73 years old.”

Simone Little Gallery occupies an old Acadian house, in which every corner tells a story of interconnection, and invites visitors to embark on an introspective journey. Begin in the Blue Meditation Gallery, where watercolors on silk and paper resonate tranquility amidst hues of azure and gold. Guests are often mesmerized by a glass–blown blue turtle, a personal tribute to Simone’s grandfather, who would take her boating along the bayou to see big turtles. Moving through the Louisiana Corridor, the essence of Cajun heritage comes alive through photographs of Acadia’s landscapes, homes, and wildlife. One of Simone’s most recent works, a think piece on conservation, resides here. In the main gallery, the Tools of Transformation exhibit awaits, featuring nine symbolic objects, presented alongside sculptures, vitreographs, and collage pieces. Like a fire rising, visitors ascending the staircase are greeted by  shades of reds, oranges, and yellows, before arriving at  a photography  gallery upstairs. 

Simone's gallery is more than just a showcase of her artwork; it's a place for learning and community. Each November the gallery participates in the Louisiana Crafts Guild’s Open Studio Acadiana coordinated gallery openings, when artists throughout the region open their doors to welcome visitors to their creative spaces.  Simone offers art classes by appointment, open to all ages and groups of all sizes, as well as various types of energy healing and wellness consultations.
