Pain, unvarnished but set to song, forms the basis of blues music. A new production from Jefferson Performing Arts Society and Jonathan Mares Productions focuses on the women of the art form. Performed by Dorian Rush, winner of three Big Easy Entertainment Awards, 100 Years of Women in the Blues travels from 1919 'til today, spotlighting Ma Rainey, Big Mama Thornton, Billie Holiday, Irma Thomas, Janis Joplin, Bonnie Raitt, and Amy Winehouse among many others. Rush tells the stories and sings the songs.
