At the Grand Village of the Natchez Indians, author Kenneth Myers will speak about his new book, 1729: The True Story of Pierre & Marie Mayeux, the Natchez Massacre and the Settlement of French Louisiana. While the book focuses on the lives of the first Mayeux settlers, it is a captivating account of the travels, experiences and lives of many of our ancestors. "This is the tale of their journey across the Atlantic, enduring a year in plague-ridden Biloxi, making their way six hundred miles up the Mississippi River, surviving one of the worst massacres in American history, living in the newly founded swamp village of New Orleans, and finally raising a family in South Louisiana." Although a historical account, the book reads more like an adventure novel, telling the stories as one might experience them. 6 pm–9 pm at 400 Jefferson Davis Avenue. Free. (601) 446-6502.
