"A Resilient People: Traditional Folklife in Louisiana"

Join the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame and Northwest Louisiana History Museum for a roundtable discussion with scholars and cultural authorities focusing on current folklife traditions practiced by several of Louisiana’s folk communities. Also included will be live music from some of Louisiana's finest folk musicians, as well as free samples of folk foods.
The panel will be moderated by Dr. Shane Rasmussen, NSU Associate Professor of English and Director of the Louisiana Folklife Center. Scholars include Dustin Fuqua, Chief of Resource Management, Cane River Creole National Historical Park; and Dr. Pete Gregory, NSU Professor of Anthropology, Academic Advisor for the Creole Heritage Center, and Curator for the NSU Williamson Museum. The cultural authorities will be F.J. Delphin (Creole foodways and food preservation, hunting, trapping, and fishing); Rhonda Gauthier, (Northwest Louisiana Native American foodways), who will bring free samples of tamales; Juanita Leonard (folk artist); Becky Meziere (Clifton Choctaw pine straw basket maker); and Vera Severin (Creole foodways), who will bring free samples pecan candy and tea cakes.
