A Symphony Is Born
to
Orpheum Theatre 129 Roosevelt Way, New Orleans, Louisiana 70112
Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra's season of musical majesty invites audiences for a closer look—and listen—into the evolution of the symphony with music from Gabrieli and Franz Joseph Haydn. Each of the six works in the performance showcases important developments in the symphonic form, an ear-opening education as well as plenty of enjoyment for music-lovers of all levels. Gabrieli's contribution to the program comes from three pieces of his Sacrae Symposium, a seminal work in music history, while three early symphonies from Haydn illustrate how the composer helped to give shape to the form as we know it today.
LPO will present two performances of this concert: September 20 at the Orpheum Theater in New Orleans, and September 21 at the Municipal Auditorium in Slidell. 7:30. $20 and up. lpomusic.com.
