Denise Gallagher's illustrations tend to read like children's storybooks—drawn in whimsical styles, rich colors, and infused with a profoundly innocent strand of magic. The internationally published author and illustrator cites rare animals, ancient folklore, and the enchantment of her Louisiana home as her inspirations. She is known to carry a sketchbook wherever she goes—granting her work the immediacy and authenticity of truly lived joy, random fleeting thought, and bits of melancholy. Gallagher's work will be on display in the exhibit A Teaspoon and a Bit of String at the Hilliard University Art Museum from June 14–August 31. hilliardmuseum.org.
