March at the Abita Springs Opry
Abita Springs Town Hall 22161 Level Street, Abita Springs, Louisiana 70420
The Abita Springs Opry is devoted to preserving Louisiana's indigenous music in all its guises. Arrive early and join the folks who've made a ritual of enjoying gumbo, hot dogs, and homemade pastries, not to mention the pre-show sound checks and front porch concerts. It all adds up to the good ole' family atmosphere that the Opry strives for. The lineup for March 18 includes:
- The Steve Anderson Group: Traditional classic Country music in the style of some of Country music's greats: Hank Williams, Jimmie Rodgers, and others noted for the classic “honky tonk” style.
- The Driskill Mountain Boys: Bluegrass is an Abita Springs Opry mainstay, and the Driskill Mountain Boys have been there from the early days.
- The Old Scratch Sallies: Newcomers to the Opry stage, but members of the New Orleans busker community, who play a variety of jug band music.
- The Melitauns: New Orleans Swamp Pop experts The Melitauns may be newcomers to the Opry stage but are well-seasoned in the New Orleans area.
After every show, many of the musicians gather at the nearby Abita Brew Pub to jam. Doors open at 5:45 pm. 22161 Level Street. $18. (985) 892-0711 or abitaopry.org for details.
