An Evening with Justin Hiltner at the Ogden
Ogden Museum of Southern Art 925 Camp Street, New Orleans, Louisiana 70130
Justin Hiltner—a queer, disabled banjo player, songwriter, and music writer—has been nominated for the Momentum Instrumentalist of the Year, Writer of the Year, and Collaborative Recording of the Year by the International Bluegrass Music Association. He is also the editor and producer of The Bluegrass Situation, the largest online community for roots music in the world; and the founder of Shout and Shine—a showcase, column, and video series celebration representation and inclusion in Bluegrass. He is also on the board for the nonprofit, Bluegrass Pride. Most people, though will be more familiar with his appearance on the podcast Dolly Parton's America or for his participation in the touring production of Oklahoma! Soon, he'll be known for something else—the release of his debut solo album 1992.
Tonight, the Ogden Museum of Southern Art hosts this remarkable artist for an evening—adding a layer of celebration and exploration to the exhibition Leaving Appalachia: The Art of Gregory B. Saunders. The evening will feature a live music performance by Hiltner, as well as a conversation between he and Saunders regarding Appalachian culture, identity, and storytelling. 6 pm–8 pm. $13.50; discounts for children, seniors, students, teachers, and military. ogdenmuseum.org.
