Angela Fraleigh at the Masur Museum
to
Masur Museum 1400 S Grand St, Monroe, Louisiana 71202
Angela Fraleigh's paintings, lush and surreal, explore gender power dynamics in art history. She reexamines the female as subject in art and contemporary media, challenging the passivity that women have been relegated to in the past. She asks, “What if the female characters we’ve come to know from art history—the lounging odalisques, the chorus that whispers in the background—present more than a voyeuristic visual feast? What if these characters embody a flickering of female power at work? Can we see these passive characters as subversive and powerful? And if we do, how might if affect women today and of the future?” A public reception will be held Thursday, July 18, 5:30 pm–7:30 pm. Free. masurmuseum.org.
