Louisiana State Parks hosts fun and educational events throughout the month of April
to
Statewide Baton Rouge, Louisiana
Each month the good folks at Louisiana State Parks send us a listing of information for all the programs taking place at park properties during the month to come. This month's calendar contains dozens of programs, ranging from dutch oven-cooking demonstrations to living history demonstrations and bird hikes. So don't spend this time of year indoors; visit the wide open spaces cared for by the State Parks system. Here is a small sampling of adventures on offer.
- On April 14, at Poverty Point World Heritage Site in Epps. Amateur ornithologist Rosalie Overby will lead a Bird Hike and identify the various birds participants encounter. Bring your binoculars and your curiosity and enjoy a two-mile hike around the site. 9:30 am. (318) 926-5492.
- Wednesdays through Fridays: Fort St. Jean Baptiste State Historic Site in Natchitoches hosts a living history program. Visitors to the site will see at least one or more demonstrations including: musket firing, molding mini balls, military fort cleaning, carpentry, beading, weaving, and or cooking. (318) 357-3101.
- On April 28, Forts Randolph and Buhlow State Historic Site in Pineville hosts a double demonstration of Dutch Oven Cooking and Civil War Dulcimer Music. Cooking begins art 9 am, music at 11 am, sampling at 11:30 am. (318) 484-2390.
