Archaeologist Talk: Excavating La Salle's Lost Ship
The Historic New Orleans Collection 533 Royal Street, New Orleans, Louisiana 70130
Texas-based archeologist Jim Bruseth will give a presentation on his involvement in locating and excavating La Belle, one of the four ships that embarked for the mouth of the Mississippi River as part of La Salle's voyage in 1684, which sunk off the Texas coast.
Divers discovered the wrecked vessel in 1995, and Bruseth led an excavation and restoration of the ship. He will present the history of La Salle's expedition, and unveil some of the many mysteries surrounding the shipwrecked La Belle.
The free lecture will begin at 6 pm, with a book signing of Bruseth's La Belle: The Ship that Changed History immediately to follow. hnoc.org.
