Art Rocks: Charles Barbier
to
Statewide Baton Rouge, Louisiana
On Art Rocks! Friday, October 26 at 8:30 pm and Saturday, October 27 at 5:30 pm, we pay tribute to Baton Rouge artist Charles Barbier, a fixture in the arts community for decades. His experience in the Vietnam War was a strengthening factor in his development as an artist. Barbier employed complex compositions in his colorful and imposing work, and often collaborated with other artists. Hear from those who knew him best.
We’ll visit with Columbus, Ohio artist, Wolfgang Parker, well known in his hometown for his music, but now also recognized as an author of children’s books. Residents in Trinidad, Colorado decided they wanted an unusual event that would draw crowds and bring the community together. The result? The town now hosts a popular parade of “art cars” each year. Plus, our Louisiana Treasure this week is the Calcasieu Marine National Bank. This grand century-old building recaptures the past and has become the event venue du jour in Lake Charles.
Hosted by James Fox-Smith of Country Roads Magazine, Art Rocks! is LPB’s weekly series that spotlights artists, performance, culture, literature, history and the impact of art in our world. It features Louisiana stories, as well as segments from across the country. Current and past episodes are here: www.lpb.org/artrocks. Art Rocks! is made possible thanks to generous support provided by Georgia-Pacific Port Hudson Operations, Renaissance Baton Rouge Hotel, Watermark Baton Rouge, Prescience Point Capital Management and Ann Connelly Fine Art.
