Artist Workshop: Arrow in the Wall

With this workshop, the Ogden Museum of Southern Art concludes a three-part series inspired by the work of artist Dusti Bongé, a pioneering Modernist from Mississippi whose abstract expressionist works are currently on display at the museum in Piercing the Inner Wall: The Art of Dusti Bongé (until September 8). Simple practices of meditation and observation bring students into a contemplative mode that encourages creativity. The workshop calls on excerpts from The Zen of Archery, by Eugan Herrigel, a book the artist and her son explored repeatedly together and whose effect is seen in her work. Students will absorb the inspiration, then paint their own works. $40 for members, $45 for non-members. 1 pm–4 pm. ogdenmuseum.org.
