Astronomy at the Library

It's been fifty years since man left his perpetual footprint on the surface of the moon, the first step in the saga of human achievement and the exchange of wonder between the earth and all that exists beyond it. This summer, the lunar curious of every age (but especially 7–11 year olds) can participate in engaging presentations by the Baton Rouge Astronomical Society at East Baton Rouge Parish libraries. June 3: Fairwood Branch at 2 pm
June 4: Jones Creek Regional Branch at 2 pm
June 10: Central Branch at 10 am
June 12: Scotlandville Branch at 2 pm
June 13: Carver Branch at 11 am
June 25: Baker Branch at 10 am
June 27: Eden Park Branch at 1 pm
July 1: Main Library at Goodwood at 10 am
July 2: Greenwell Springs Road Regional Branch at 10 am
July 9: Bluebonnet Regional Branch at 10:30 am
July 11: Zachary Branch at 9:30 am
Each presentation will last 45 minutes. Registration is required for all at the Children's Room at each library. Free.
As a bonus for the starstruck, the Main Library at Goodwood will host Astronomer and former NASA consultant Kevin Manning for a special presentation on the size and scale of the universe. The program will be followed by an hour of sky viewing with a telescope on the third floor terrace. 7 pm–9 pm on Sunday, June 23. Free.
