Axeman's Ball Featuring Naughty Professor
Republic NOLA 828 S. Peters Street, New Orleans, Louisiana 70130
Emily Ferretti
Naughty Professor, who will play at the Axeman's Ball.
The infamous "Axeman of New Orleans" terrorized the city over one hundred years ago. Though the axe-wielding murderer was never caught, his legacy still holds a fearful place in the conscience of New Orleans today. His letters published in the Times-Picayune are chilling, though he does share New Orleans' love of its favorite genre: "I am very fond of jazz music, and I swear by all the devils in the nether regions that every person shall be spared in whose home a jazz band is in full swing at the time I have just mentioned. If everyone has a jazz band going, well, then, so much the better for you people."
The Krewe of Boo is playing on the Axeman's gory legacy—and his love of jazz—for their swinging, prohibition-themed event The Axeman's Ball. New Orleans' own brutal progressive jazz six-piece Naughty Professor will provide killer live music, drinks and bites will flow, and all are encouraged to don their 1920s-best for this ball at Republic NOLA. $15–$25. 7 pm–11 pm. Find the event on Facebook or at axemanball.com for tickets or more information.
