In America's most Caribbean city comes the "Original Caribbean Carnival." Hosted by Caribbean Carnival/Friends of Culture, an organization run by New Orleans locals native to parts of the Caribbean, Bayou Bacchanal exists to share the festive traditions of the Caribbean with the Crescent City community. Be sure to catch the kick off dance and opening night "White Party" on the first, and then head to the celebration and parade in Congo Square the next day—which will feature performances by Pan Vibrations, Lady Peppertree, DJ Trek, DJ Fire Flame, and Messiah. Free (except for the opening night party, which costs $45 at the door). bayoubacchanal.org.
