Beyond Gee's Bend: Community Quilting Workshop
New Orleans Museum of Art 1 Collins C. Diboll Circle, New Orleans, Louisiana 70124
Learn to hand-craft your own quilts in the spirit of the traditional methods practice by the makers featured in the exhibition, The Quilts of Gee's Bend. Textile artists will offer demonstrations, guests will enjoy a musical performance, and Tulane Law School's Dr. Elizabeth Townsend Gard will speak on copyright issues, her provenance workbook project, and her community podcast Just Wanna Quilt. The podcast, which includes a wide community of quilters learning about their art, copyright, and other intellectual property issues, includes interviews with over three hundred quilt-related makers, scholars, historians, inventors, and lawyers.
